GSP doesn't cease to surprise with diversity of the its releases, without saying to that wonderfully finds treasures in an infinite musical vastness in which they for some reason were unnoticed in due time. So, before the one fine day the world perhaps didn't know about the person by the name of James Cruikshank, without saying about his silent and modest creation named "The Transition State" and now became the moment of truth when the album received publicity, and already nothing block for it a way to ears and hearts of potential listeners and doesn't prevent to become a new subject for discussions at musical forums and on similar places.
The album greets us by the cover executed in gray paints, inspiring feeling of estrangement and melancholy and only metamorphoses of the butterfly who is getting out from a cocoon somehow installs a vital sparkle in this gloominess, because not for nothing in interpretation of antique symbolism the image of the butterfly who is creeping out of a cocoon personifies the soul which is releasing from a body. I don't undertake to be engaged of interpretation of sense of this art allegory because it isn't the paramount purpose of the review, and only a detail but it received the deserved portion of attention. Speak, any surface hides under itself vast depth and same it is possible to say about the difficult sphere of art. But, we go further.
Everything in this album is penetrated by an intrigue, from beginning and to the end. Even a notable tendency for Ambient's prostration which possesses by the our relaxed consciousness from the first track. "The 52 Herz" meets us by the desert monotony and the mysterious name. Really, in similar creations one can look similar things which have something strange and abstract, but at the same time can transfer some deep idea inspired by the mood and desire to express the vision of this or that episode which mentions the human beginning. Can one understand, what sense is ciphered under this sound structure? Maybe will be remembered the history about the wanderings in the absolute loneliness on boundless open spaces of the ocean accompanied with an appeal in 52 hertz? History of the most lonely whale or a narration about a loneliness vale that is the eternal tragedy of human life.
By the modest charm, and then by the squall of sincere confusion continues this interlude the track "A Turn Of The Screw"... The Ambient beginning, wide guitars, which are blowing up by unexpected peals of rigid reeves with never-ending modulations of the minor notes penetrating across all composition just as the rain penetrates the gray sky in cold autumn evening. The rain mercilessly flogs by sharp drops on roofs of gray houses, drums on glass, dirty streets buried in the tedious slush. It is a good time to remember that already came the autumn. Autumn enters by a sad and thoughtful keynote which goes by the infinite train in the accord with pressing by the grievous atmosphere of an autumn depression.
The composition "Charon's Toll" has not specific images, it is rather background sketch possessing the same mood as this album in his integral look. Probably I underestimate this thing, maybe it has any special value in idea of an album, but this track really looks obscure and apears a feeling of incompleteness and boredom. Very interesting course in evelopment of a plot does "Limbo", bringing the revival in the album which has absolutely already drowned in previous monotony. The same penetrating cold ambient which has been gracefully added with the post-rock drive, a little defiant, but nevertheless very atmospheric and touching manners and again I want to enjoy by pleasant guitar strums in the style of Agalloch, Liam and etc.
Further I want to listen this album more thoroughly because in it already appears more and more the heat and emotional chaos. There is a desire to break and destroy everything that around or to destroy any burdensome side. "Shatter" literally means "fragment", "splinter"... And where, to travel on what states will send us to "Transition State"? It was expected anything, except contemplation of space panoramas in which weak light gives out the presence of a pale blue point. Who knows, can do it is a symbol of the loneliness lost in the universal emptiness or an embodiment of life. Both definitions take place to be. It was necessary to enter it in the concept of an album and we will receive the final track of "The Pale Blue Dot" full of majestic space tranquillity, and time changes the habitual current, being transformed in this infinite space...
The result of heard and told supplies 2 bonus tracks - vigorous and gusty "The Rush" with furious chords and juicy fingerings in the same sad and romantic frets and the charming "Trial By Fire" which isn't conceding in dynamism to the previous opus that considerably allocates this couple from all other part of an album. At the end i have a wish to add that mood and the power of music so fascinates imagination that the modest instruments by means of which the idea of this album was carried out are noticed not at once... something reminding keyboards samples, percussions and certainly a guitar. From it the sound seems a little poor and songs look worked not enough in the plan of arrangements, seem a little dampish. As if something doesn't suffice. But for sincere emotions and allegoricalness of an album he can be considered as the interesting and quite good beginning in Sylvan Circle career). More shortly, you already learned my opinion, and further to estimate to you because everyone looks at art under own the corner of perception.
